"The Falcon" on Havok...One Day Only

My short story "The Falcon" is this week's Thriller Thursday story on gohavok.com. Here's an excerpt, courtesy of Havok's fb page:

“No way. You’re crazy,” Morse scoffed.
“It’s the truth!” O’Connor’s nasally voice insisted over the Bluetooth connection. “Don’t you think I checked? Are you that arrogant?”
Morse scowled at the grimy storefront. “And how did it end up in a pawn shop in a backwater town like this?”
“Same way anything else ends up in a pawn shop. Someone needed a quick buck.”

"Tales From the Tomb" on Pre-Sale NOW!

The newest anthology from Ye Olde Dragon Books is coming soon! Tales From the Tomb is on pre-sale from now until Oct. 15!

It's part of Ye Olde Dragon's "Classic Monster" anthology series, and as I'm sure you can guess from the image above, this time the focus is on the Mummy. The book will include "The Seekers," the newest entry into my Sardis County series. It's a pretty different take on the mummy concept with some noir vibes, and I hope you'll check it out.

The official release date is Oct. 15, but you can use the link below to pre-order now:

"Closing Day" on Havok...One Day Only

My short story "Closing Day" is this week's Techno Tuesday story on gohavok.com. The story is set on the day after Labor Day, same as today...perfect timing, right? Here's a little excerpt, courtesy of Havok's fb page:
#

“It’s that time again, isn’t it?” Melba’s smile was in place as always, but today there was a tinge of sadness to it.

Ellis nodded. “Afraid so. Closing Day.” He wore black on the day after Labor Day; he was in mourning, after all.

"The Champion of Pecullar" on Havok...One Day Only

My short story "The Champion of Pecullar" is being featured as this week's Thriller Thursday story on gohavok.com. The monthly theme is "Vice and Virtue," so I decided to tackle laziness vs. diligence for this story. Here's an excerpt, courtesy of Havok's fb page:

#

“See?” Joler exclaimed, waking me up. “I beg Crobet to train with me every day, but he just sits there!”
“Why haven’t you been training?” Turgess snapped. “You’re getting flabby!”
I shrugged, regretting giving them the access code to the underground command center. “When was the last threat? Three years ago, maybe four?”
“So?” The wiry old man kicked my couch. “You’re the Champion of Pecullar! You have to be prepared at all times! If word gets out that you’ve gotten soft and lazy, we’re doomed!”
“You called me a phenom, remember? Nobody’s faster or stronger than me!” I rolled over, trying to go back to sleep.
“That’s no substitute for staying sharp!”

"The Last Laugh" on Havok...One Day Only!

My new short story, "The Last Laugh," is this week's Thriller Thursday story on gohavok.com. This is another entry in my Sardis County series, and it plays with one of my favorite themes, revenge gone awry. The story also features both of my dual (dueling?) antagonists--Janus Labs as well as the mysterious Other Side. It's a six-minute read, and it can be read for free for today only.

I'm including a little excerpt here, the same one that Havok has on Facebook to promote the story. Speaking of Havok's fb page, check out the  image that Havok Publishing included with it. Absolutely amazing, and a perfect fit for the story in my humble opinion.

The floorboards of the psychiatric facility creaked beneath my feet as I followed Dr. Kelvin down the hall. All the other residents either stared at me or looked through me like I wasn’t there. I wasn’t sure which was creepier.

“Does she still talk about Lenora?” I asked.

“Sometimes.” Kelvin raised an eyebrow. “You said you’re her cousin?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Never seen you here before. Can’t blame you, considering.”

“I’m not very close to this cousin.” Hence the poisoned sugar cookies.

If Mom and Dad were here, they would tell me to let it go, that nothing good could come from revenge, quoting Scriptures at me. Then again, if they were still here, I wouldn’t need revenge. They died because of Courtney’s practical joke, and she had never accepted responsibility for it. Now it was time to avenge them.

"Up the Down Beanstalk" is now available!

Admittedly, I should have posted this back in May, but the end of the school year was pretty hectic this year. Anyway, I digress...

The latest anthology from Ye Olde Dragons Books, "Up the Down Beanstalk," is now available! As you can tell, it focuses on the theme of Jack and the Beanstalk. It also includes (as the first story in the collection!) my latest Sardis County story, "Little's Shop of Terrors." If you are a fan of 1980s movies, that title alone should probably give you an inkling of what to expect...

Just click here if you would like to purchase a copy.

As always, thank you for your continued support!

"Icebird vs. Dirge" on Havok...One Day Only

My new short story, "Icebird vs. Dirge," is this week's Techno Tuesday story on gohavok.com. This is my second story about Houston Haas, who fights crime as the superhero Icebird. It's a six-minute read, and it can be read for free for today only.

I'm including a little excerpt to whet your appetite. Also, check out the awesome image that Havok Publishing has put on their Facebook page to promote the story!

A job for Icebird, on Dad’s birthday. How ironic is that?

One year ago, Houston Haas had taken up the mantle of Icebird from his late father, complete with costume, jetpack, and freeze ray, but in a wholly different direction. His father, Jerry, had used his inventions to help criminals commit robberies for a cut of the loot. Now, Houston was using his father’s gear to fight crime.

“I’m sure being… displaced is very challenging,” Collins replied. “Especially for a man who has served our country. You can move in as soon as tomorrow, and we can put you up in a hotel tonight.”

Displaced. He can’t bring himself to say homeless or even unhoused. His gaze panned out over the Tennessee landscape, finally settling on the slides and swing sets just beyond the iron fence. Only in Sardis County would they put a playground next to a cemetery. “Okay, I’ll accept.”
